Consistent Methods Get Consistent Results In Dog Training

Having a dog is a lot of fun and you will soon find yourself loving your dog. You may have your hands full when first getting a dog. Training is absolutely necessary. Use these tips on a consistent basis and you will see a trained dog in no time at all.

Listening to your dog is one of the most important steps of training your dog. If your dog is uncomfortable or scared, then you aren’t going to get the result that you are looking for. Respect their needs and the process will go a lot smoother.

Your dog should always give you its attention when asked. Once your dog knows his attention command, you will be able to coerce him to ignore almost anything.

Do not respond to demands for attention from your dog. Training a dog to be docile and controlled, means that you control when attention is given. In the pack, Alphas will ignore these behaviors until the dog is calm and relaxed. Then and only then, should you build excitement through play with the animal.

Make sure to keep your dog training sessions brief. Animals become bored quickly and are less likely to respond if they are not engaged in what you are doing. Aim for working with your pet three times a day for approximately five minutes at a time. This will leave them wanting more and will make your overall program more successful.

It is a simple task to teach a dog how to roll over, just be sure to keep some dog treats handy! The first step is to get the dog to lay down. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog’s head and move it around it’s face to the other side. As the dog uses his nose to track the morsel, he will simultaneously roll his entire body over. Whenever you dog does roll over, actually say the words, “roll over.” Continue to do this until your dog actually rolls over whenever you say the words without using the treat. Have patience since your dog may not get the trick quickly. However, once he does, he’ll be the center of attention at the dog park.

If your dog is not listening while you are doing dog training, make sure that the dog is not ill. There will be no benefits to punishing your animal if it is not feeling well, and it can have very detrimental effects afterwards. If you are unable to decide if the dog is sick then contact a veterinarian for assistance.

When choosing a new dog for your household, it is a good idea to do some research on different breeds of dogs. This will help you find some that are suited for you and your lifestyle so the dog can be a part of your family for many years to come.

After reading this article, you are ready to start training your dog. You need to have a lot of patience and give your dog a treat if they do well. It takes time, but it’s worth the endeavor.
