Do You Have A Mischievous Dog? Train It With These Tips!

Training your dog can be difficult, but that is only true if you are unsure how to do it properly. Much like anything else, dog training requires you to take proper steps and educate yourself on the subject matter. The ways to train your dog are numerous, but the article below should be of some help to you in providing you tips on how to be successful.

Using a crate when you’re not at home can be very effective, especially for a young puppy. The crate keeps your puppy safe and secure, and also protects your home from chewing and bathroom accidents. Your puppy can learn to feel comfortable and protected in his crate home while you are away.

Your dog needs to lead an active lifestyle. Boredom often befalls an inactive dog, or he may find himself in a “mutt rut” with a dull and listless routine. A bored dog is very difficult to train. Keeping your dog exercised and happy will help them pay attention more due to releasing all excess energy that often distracts them from your commands. Before every training session, prepare your dog by taking them for a walk.

Your friends and family, in most cases, are not dog trainers. While those around you may have advice and opinions on how you should handle your dog’s training, it does not mean they are correct. This input may be well-meaning, however, you can ignore most of it if you have taken the time to do your homework.

If possible, position your dog’s crate next to your bed. This is a critical step in teaching him that is where you want him to sleep. Since you are still within sight he isn’t as likely to panic about having to stay in the crate for an extended period of time.

Whenever you’re training your dog, be sure and use the same vocal tone when giving commands. Maintaining the same tone lets your dog know that you are serious and they should obey your commands. The dog will also know the difference when you give them discipline as opposed to a command.

Encourage your dog’s cooperation in training by rewarding good behavior. Dogs respond to a calm, confident leader who earns respect. When your dog responds to commands make sure you reward him with play or food, and make sure you reward easy commands as well as harder ones to build his confidence.

Allowing everyone in the family to tell your dog different things will completely defeat the purpose of training him. Have a family meeting or keep a list of dog training rules on the refrigerator to remind all people that interact with the animal to be consistent with commands, punishments and rewards. Otherwise the dog will be in a constant state of confusion and every family member will be completely frustrated.

Dog training really depends on two factors for success: your willingness and your dog’s understanding. Make sure to really take an open approach to training your dog and accept advice when needed. The tips from this article are a great way to start and by no means are they the only way to successfully train your dog.
