Any habit a dog owner wishes can be trained, regardless of whether he or she wants the dog to do or stop doing the behavior. Perhaps they won’t be 100% successful, but they can be limited with this article. With a good training program, any dog can be a trouble-free companion.
If you have gotten a dog or puppy and you have crate trained them you should always try not to keep them in there for more than four or five hours at a time unless it’s overnight or it’s just a once-in-awhile thing. If you have to have them in the crate for longer periods of time, a dog probably wasn’t the best option for you.
When you are working on dog training your newest addition to the family, try not to accidentally punish the animal for good behavior. If you have gotten a puppy, for example, and he goes to the bathroom outside correctly do not leave the dog out there alone. Take time with him and play with him because if you leave him alone he will be sad and think he did something wrong.
Always use your dog’s name when issuing commands. When training your dog, it is important to be able to get and maintain their attention. Using your dog’s name when giving a command will make them focus. Use your dog’s name often. Get them used to both hearing and responding to it.
Your dog needs to lead an active lifestyle. Boredom often befalls an inactive dog, or he may find himself in a “mutt rut” with a dull and listless routine. If your dog is not receiving enough mental stimulation, it may not respond well to training. When your dog is happy and well-exercised, he will be more willing to pay attention to his training. Before every training session, prepare your dog by taking them for a walk.
Play with your dog often. In order to train your dog efficiently, it is important to develop and nurture a bond between the two of you. Make sure you are taking the time out of your day to play with your dog. It will be fun and stress-reducing for both of you.
It is easy to train a roll with treats. Start by commanding the animal to lie down. The next step is to hold a treat close to the floor by the dog’s head then continue to move the treat over his head until you reach the other side. He’ll follow your hand and roll over completely. Be sure to say ROLL OVER as your dog is rolling. Eventually, he will learn to perform the trick upon command. Be patient with him when you are teaching this because once he learns it, he can be quite the show-off amongst your friends.
With the right techniques, training your dog is easy. With the right owner mindset, followed with the proper knowledge, training a dog can be accomplished. Some dogs may require a little more time or possibly a different training technique; however, successful dog training requires patience from the owner.
