The Advice You Need To Successfully Train Your Dog

Like every other dog owner, you dream of a well-behaved pooch. This article will provide everything you need to know about training your dog correctly.

When crate training your new puppy or dog, there are a few tricks you can apply. If the dog doesn’t want to get in the crate try putting a chew toy in it and close the gate when they’re not there. The dog will smell the bone and want to go racing into the crate to eat it. When he does, praise him for it so he knows it was a good thing to do.

Any dog owner should consider their pet’s diet when looking to correct behavioral problems. As with humans, dogs are what they eat. If their diet is not nutritionally sound, internal and external problems can develop. Make sure your dog is eating his best, and improved behavior will often follow.

Focus on your body language when training. Dogs respond much easier to non-verbal cues. Pay attention to how they respond to different actions and facial expressions that you make to learn what affect they have on them. Keep your words short and too the point and reinforce it with bodily actions.

Your friends and family, in most cases, are not dog trainers. While those around you may have advice and opinions on how you should handle your dog’s training, it does not mean they are correct. This input may be well-meaning, however, you can ignore most of it if you have taken the time to do your homework.

If you are getting a new dog, and you intend to train it, look for a younger dog. The old adage “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is somewhat appropriate here. Younger dogs are more receptive to dominance from a pack leader and will learn quickly in an effort to please. Another plus to this is that young dogs really enjoy learning new things, much like children do.

When you first get your puppy don’t expect him to learn a large number of commands in a short amount of time. Your puppy needs time to acclimate to his new environment. During this time, it is possible to teach him two or three simple commands. Do not move on to other commands until your puppy has mastered these.

Do not train your dog when you are angry or stressed. Not only will you have less patience, but dogs are incredibly receptive to their owner’s moods. By skipping training when you are not at your best, you can be sure when you do train, it will be much more effective.

Train your dog so that living together is fun for both you and your dog. Living with a dog should not be a hardship, but it can be if you don’t take the time to research the type of training a dog understands. A dog does not think like a human, so learning how to train in a way they understand will make it easier for both of you.

Having a successful show dog is nice for owner and pet. The tips provided in this article are proven to be the best ways to train your show dog in every aspect. Though each dog owner will have their own approach, it is hoped that you can better train your canine through them.
