Who Says You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks? Just Follow This Advice.

Training your dog is not as difficult as you may think. It is easy to build a solid, firm foundation of mutual respect and love with your canine companion. Establish trust with your dog and he or she is sure to value your standing as the pack leader that you are.

Here are a few ways to make crate training more positive for your dog. If they are hesitant about the crate, you can put a nice chew bone inside and shut the gate while they are not in it. Your dog will want the bone and will be unable to resist entering the crate. Upon entering the crate, praise your puppy to make sure it knows it did a good job.

When you have gotten a new dog and you are working on training a key thing to remember is that you must always enforce the commands that you give your dog. Do not let the dog ignore you, and do not say the command over and over. If you are not going to be strong enough to enforce what you are saying, you might as well not waste your time.

When you are going to be training your dog, it is important that you limit the length of the training sessions. Start out with a small training session and up the time every day. Know when your dog does not pay attention when you are training it.

If you cannot calmly work with your pet, it is best to put training aside until you have composed your mood. Your dog does not understand bad moods. Confusion can set in with your dog if you become frustrated in trying to work on basics. Patience and kindness are key factors in a dominant leader.

A good plan when training your dog is to keep your sessions short. When you have multiple, short sessions of training, as opposed to one long set, your dog will stay interested and will anticipate more. Keeping your pet motivated by short interval sessions will be effective and have a stronger impact.

Don’t feed your dog food they aren’t accustomed to when house training them. Very rich foods, in particular, make it hard for a dog to control their bowels. Stick to the tried and true in terms of types of food and the quantity you feed and the house breaking experience will proceed much more smoothly.

Stop a training session with your dog if you become angry with it. If you are angry at your dog, will not be able to train it fairly. You may be especially prone to dishing out unnecessarily harsh punishments, causing your dog to fear you rather than learn anything from that training session.

When you take the time to build a valuable relationship with your dog, you are investing in a task that will reward you for years to come. Enjoy the great feeling of love and admiration that emanates from your pup and experience the type of dog that everyone wants to have.
